Pregnancy related pain

    Prengnancy Pain

Headaches in pregnancy can be particularly bothersome for some women, especially in the first and third trimester.  During the first trimester, there is a rapid surge in pregnancy hormones combined with an increase in blood volume.  These changes can lead to more frequent headaches, especially in those women prone to headaches prior to pregnancy.

There is comprehensive research which shows that acupuncture is an effective treatment for the prevention of Migraines and Tension headaches.

    Lower Back and pelvic pain

Pain in the lower back and pelvic region is common during pregnancy.

A number of studies have shown that acupuncture can help to relieve lower back and pelvic pain in pregnancy.[1],[2],[3],[4]

Acupuncture can be used alongside conventional treatments such as physiotherapy, exercises and support belts.

In an observational study based here in New Zealand at Hutt Valley Hospital, outpatient antenatal clinic, the authors found that 88.9% treated with acupuncture for lower back and pelvic pain reported a meaningful reduction in their symptoms.
